We knew it would be a tough test, especially after they won the last encounter 12–0. But from the very first whistle, the girls came out fighting, pressing for every ball and setting the tempo.
Suzie opened the scoring with a brilliant solo run, dribbling through defenders and finishing with confidence. She struck again shortly after when Leni threaded a perfect assist through the defence, making it 2–0. Suzie then completed her hat-trick, pouncing on a rebound to put us 3–0 up.
Franche came close to pulling one back on two occasions, both from corners, but Grace produced outstanding goalkeeping to deny them. She even won a one-on-one by sliding in bravely, showing total confidence and composure. What a fantastic battle of a first half.
The girls knew they needed to maintain the tempo to secure the win, and they did exactly that. Some brilliant forward play and neat triangles between Harriet, Brooke and Suzie opened up space, allowing Brooke to get on the scoresheet. Later, a smart turn from Brooke saw her net again, making it 5–0.
Franche continued to battle and created several chances of their own, but Grace remained solid, keeping everything out. Their pressure meant more defensive work for Khaleesi, Bella, Leni and Rose, who all showed excellent tackling, positioning and clearances to protect the clean sheet.
A special mention goes to Grace, who was deservedly chosen as the opposition’s Player of the Match.
