Physical Education (PE) at Parkside is a cornerstone subject. We recognise the importance for all pupils to be engaged in regular physical activity, and how this promotes healthy bodies, healthy minds and healthy lifestyle choices by all. All pupils receive their statutory lesson time for PE every week, where pupils are provided with an opportunity to participate in a range of sports and physical activities.
Our lessons expose pupils to competition within sports, which helps to develop values and discipline to benefit them in sport and all other aspects of life. With a strong inclusive approach, we ensure that our pupils develop the skills, knowledge, techniques and control to ensure that they acquire and develop in a range of sports during their time at Parkside. PE at Parkside provides both stimulating and challenging learning through a range of sports including Invasion games, Net and Wall games, Striking and Fielding and Athletics.
Our Long Term Plan maps out PE provision across the year groups and our Medium Term Plan allows for consistency of delivery across the school. Pupils participate in 2 high quality PE lessons per week, rotating through a specific timetable of sports in line with the other Bromsgrove Middle School Learning Partnership schools.
We encourage pupils to lead healthy, active lifestyles through lifelong participation in sport and physical activity, allowing them to become socially and emotionally aware, confident young people. Our wealth of extra-curricular clubs and opportunities help to support this. As a result, we have lots of success across the county in sports fixtures and competitions, as well as ensuring that all pupils who wish to join a club have the opportunity and are welcomed to do so. The vast extra-curricular offering is linked to the curriculum and allows pupils to represent Parkside Middle School in competitive situations and learn the values of sportsmanship, respect, and fair play. Additional opportunities are provided to promote inclusion across the school and encourage lifelong participation in sport and physical activity.
Links with a range of local sports clubs, to encourage pupils to participate in sport outside of school and therefore receive the huge benefits that sport and physical activity can provide.
