Year 8

Welcome to Year 8

Throughout Year 8 our aim is to support the pupils in making the all-important transition to High School, both in terms of their academic choices and personal development. To prepare them for this, we offer a diverse and challenging curriculum, which enables them to make appropriate decisions for the next stage of their education – whether that means taking GCSEs or vocational courses.

While core subjects are taught in a traditional discrete format, foundation subjects continue to be delivered in intensive courses and rotate every 10 weeks within the Humanities and Arts carousels. Within Year 8, pupils will discover a range of new topics to enhance their learning and support them with the options they will select in high school for the future. Specialist teachers will guide pupils in the direction they feel is best for them, to achieve their overall goal in Key Stage 4.

Additional opportunities to excel and develop life skills in Year 8 include roles such as: Head Boys/Girls, Prefects, Sports Leaders and peer mentors. These roles build pupils' confidence and communication skills with adults and children in the school community.
