Holocaust Memorial Day – Ordinary People

27 January 2023

On the 27th of January, at 11:00am the Head Pupils of Parkside attended the Holocaust Memorial Day service at Sanders Park. The service was led by Reverend Ray Khan.

Holocaust Memorial Day is the day for everyone to remember the millions of people killed in the Holocaust through Nazi persecution and subsequent genocides. During the service, we listened to breath-taking stories, prayers of penitence and songs performed by North and South High School.

We left the service with powerful messages dwelling in our mind.

‘Enable us to defend those who are not strong enough to defend themselves.’

‘No wickedness can ever extinguish your infinite love.’

‘May remembrance make us alert to the reality of evil and to the words that are used.’

‘Deepen our respect for everything!’

At Parkside, we will always try to be good citizens and never let evil thrive. We have spent lessons learning about the ‘Ordinary People’ involved in the genocide.

Also, we recognise how fortunate we are in the UK that we are not at this similar risk.
